Basic terms you need to know (part 2)

MySQL: a database server for managing data. If you are just making plain websites and don't require interactive components, this is optional.

Prepaid: means the amount of months you have to pay the service provide when you register for the web hosting service.

Domain name: Some web hosting plans come with a free domain name and some don't. A domain name normally cost about $10.

Basic terms you need to know (part 1)

Disk space / Web space: Indicates how much space does it provide for you to put contents in it. Usually hundreds of MBs or several GBs.

Bandwidth: Indicates how much traffic is allowed. It may be in Daily or Monthly basis.

PHP: A server-side scripting language which makes the pages dynamic. You won't need this is you only have static, plain HTML pages. Official website: http://www.php.net/

Free web hosting services (part 1)

If you have a few small websites, and do not want to spend any money on them. You may choose some free web hosting services.

Free web hosting services are usually providing less web space and monthly transfer bandwidth. Also, some of them will have advertisements on your pages! Although there may be some methods to get rid of them, they're still annoying.

The support provided are also limited. When you have trouble with your site, it may take a day or so to recover. Moreover, they are not suitable for professional websites.

Do remember which people always says, there is no free lunch in the world.
